As I continue to hike all over southern California training for my #hermosasupervivencia #caminodesantiago pilgrimage, I am saddened by what happened in our Senate this week. It appears as if we may have witnessed the end of our democratic republic as we now have a #dictator in office. There are no checks and balances anymore and the Senate is not responsive to the will of the people they were elected to represent. This has never happens in our country. Whatever we may have thought about past presidents we always knew they were impeachable. We always knew we could vote them out of office. We always knew we could prevent them from committing crimes. We always knew we were a democracy. We don’t know this anymore .I am not sure what we still know for sure. As a spiritual person I am asking what I can do, what should I do? What is my role in all this? When this man got into office I asked my guides why this happened? They have been talking to me for years about the shift in consciousness and about my role in helping the planet to shift. How, I asked, could the election of a racist sexual predator be consistent with a shift in consciousness? The answer I got four years ago surprised me. The guides said even this was a good thing. They said that this event was going to galvanize people to come together and to work across differences. Survivable was going to compel people to change for the better. It’s true that people do tend to become better versions of themselves during natural and national disasters. We become kinder and more generous. We unite and we cooperate. We tend to respond to devastation with love. Have we done that as a nation? I saw us do that in the wake of the muslim ban when thousands of us came together occupied the airports. I saw us do that in the wake of the detention of immigrants at the border. Now they are going after #womensrights. Will we ban together again? And will our love prevail in this climate of hate? Recently when I asked my guides what to do they told me to work faster uniting all the light 💡 workers and starting my school. They said people working on the shift have to work faster. For my part, I am speeding up. Are you?

Hello Bay Area! Are you ready to start visioning for 2020? There are so many ways to begin to see, sense, and know what is coming. There are many ancient forms of scrying and prophecy that have been used in different cultures. I have been busy of late writing my new show for the Weaving Spirits Festival. So excited to be able to perform with a collection of talented Two Spirit artists in San Francisco! I will be putting up a 45 minute one person show on the second night of the festival. Other artists will be performing on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as well. I have known one of the producers,Landa Lakes, a well-known drag performer, theatre artist and MC, for years and am so honored to be sharing the stage with her. She really is so incredibly talented and funny. She and I met at a few of the annual Two Spirit Retreats held throughout the United States over the past ten years. We also hail from kindred southeastern tribes. Make sure you come every night just to see Landa! Such a treat! My show is tentatively titled: “ (Re) Counting (Wo)Man” and will be a melange of poetry, images, and storytelling exploring race, culture, gender, and sexuality. The Festival is being produced at Counterpulse and you can get your tickets from them.

Doing some more #caminosantiago Training today: Hiked up Signal Hill where apparently rock throwing is a thing... it was not a rigorous hike, only about 4 KM/ 2.5 miles and that was only because I ended up looping around a second time in part by accident. The original path was 2 miles but sections of it have been closed because of the rock throwers. The wealthy homeowners nearby decided that the vandals who hike this path did not actually deserve a hiking path so they closed portions of it that overlook the mansions. My colleague, the mother of a teen boy tells me this is the stalking ground of disgruntled teens. We really need more community teen centers so the kids have something better to do than go up on signal Hill to get high and throw stones...but I digress. There were beautiful views and the Los Angeles skyline could be seen in the distance ( about 25 clicks away). The path was more a road and the scenery was a mix of nature, oil rigs, mansions, industrial parks, and actual parks. So in this regard it was similar to the Camino- more a tour of a land than a hike through nature. No disgruntled teens were spotted, alas. I wore my Donner hiking boots. I have two pairs of hiking boots and one pair of hiking shoes so I am trying them all out in hope that I don’t have to buy any new ones for the trip. Today I wore a regular backpack with about ten lbs in it to see how that felt. Eventually I will need to carry 15 lbs and hike about 6-8 hours a day doing anywhere from 10-20 KM/ day for 30-35 days if I walk the entire Camino Frances... My current goal is to increase my distance but eventually my goal will change to time and endurance. When I am not hiking I am teaching workshops in southern California, seeing clients, and working on the next iteration of the Women of Color Medicine Series and the Medicine Apprenticeship Program. I have yet to send out the acceptance letters and am still looking for a venue in Oakland or Berkeley... so DM me if you know of a spot big enough for about 15 people. My guides say that if I am meant to keep flying up to the Bay to teach and heal then the way will be made clear and the work will be filled with ease and grace.
